Area 7,the fourth novel from Australian author Matthew Reilly
is charged with action. This long awaited novel is set at a secret base
buried deep in the Utah desert. Today, the President of the United States
is visiting this secret base, closely guarded by a young Marine who
hides his eyes behind a pair of silver anti-flash sunglasses. His name
is Schofield, call-sign Scarecrow. Schofield and his team from Ice
Station are escorting the President on an anything but routine
mission. Once the President lands at Area 7, a six level Air
Force base that houses military Aircraft, laboratories, human guinea
pigs and an underground rail system, his Secret Service Team take over
and Schofield and his Marines are left to their own devices until the
President is ready to leave. Shane becomes aware that all is not as
it should be and a battle rages to save the President from crazed enemy
forces that have infiltrated the compound, as well as a host of other
hostiles. Separated from the rest of his unit, Schofield and the President
must race against the clock to avoid a nation-wide catastrophe that
will see the destruction of the United States come to pass.
The MH-12 Maghook, that was used to great effect in Ice Station,
reappears in Area 7, along with his trusty Desert Eagle and
assortment of Heckler and Koch firearms. As is typical of a Matthew
Reilly novel, there is enough weapons and military hardware to appease
the most avid tech fan. Area 7 rockets along at super-sonic
speed to culminate in a earth-shattering climax.
