Hey there fellow moviegoers, booklovers and TV-watchers!
You know, when it's all said and done, all you really want from a reviewer is one simple conclusion: should I see this movie? (Or read this book or watch this TV show?)
Having grown weary of professional reviewers who seem to have forgotten this basic rule, as a service to the good folk who visit www.matthewreilly.com , I've decided to do my own random reviews of the movies, books and TV shows that I watch. What I'll also do, on occasion, is review the reviewers , and comment on how some films or books have been received by the professionals.
Usually, they are current releases, but sometimes they're not. I do not get invited to press screenings of movies; nor do I receive free copies of books or advance tapes of TV shows. Just like you, I'm a paying customer, so that's the view I'll be giving you: the opinion of a paying customer. Is this book, movie or show worth your money and time?
As an author, I'm often asked to recommend books to people. During my 2003 book with Scarecrow , I famously recommended a then-obscure novel called The Da Vinci Code to anyone who asked if I'd read anything good recently (my touting of the Code was reported in an article in The Australian newspaper). I figure this is a good way to recommend stuff.
(Also, since over the last few years in my website column I've commented on various movies, books and TV shows, those reviews are also tabulated below.)
All the best, and I hope you like what I like!
