MOONDUST (2005), Andrew Smith

When I was in the UK earlier this year, this book was everywhere .and rightfully so.

It is simply awesome. It's about the twelve men who walked on the Moon and what happened to them afterwards. I mean, what can you do after you've walked on the surface of the Moon? How do you top that?

Andrew Smith's book is one of the best analyses of human nature - and human nature in the face of overwhelming achievement - that I have ever, ever read. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in the Space Race, the Moon landings, and a person's ability to cope with having once, briefly, been superhuman. (It also has a great section on the conspiracy theorists who believe that no-one actually landed on the Moon.) A truly superior read.
